If you asked me years ago about where at thought I’d be at the age of 23, I would have told you that I’d be married by now with a chubby cute son running all around the house. I thought by now I’d have my dream job, living lavishly with the man of my dreams 😂. When you’re like 15, you just believe 8 years is a really long time for all these not to happen. My day dreaming game was a 💯.
Never love the goal more than the process that you forget to really live
I think it’s a whole package to enjoy your life while chasing the dream. When I was in the University, my greatest dream was to graduate and with a first class. That was my goal but I chose to enjoy the process. I did not realize this until the end of my second year. I refused to just go through the motions and just pursue my goal. Although anxiety almost got the better of me sometimes, but I never forgot to enjoy myself while reaching for my goal.
On the 3rd of March, I turned 23. I wasn’t so sure of what to expect, but I decided I was going to live everyday like it was my birthday. Don’t ask me how that’s going 😂. I was just two months settled in a new city, this was my first time being really away from home and family, but right from when I was posted to Rivers state, I decided I was going to enjoy my service year.
By next month, I’ll be halfway through 23,but these are a few of the lessons I have learned, some I already knew in my subconscious, or just knew but never really sank in until now.
- Never Despise Correction
I have had times when I’m corrected, I react emotionally instead of logically, and most of the time it never ends well. When you’re corrected by people who love you, don’t take it personal because it’s out of love. If it’s constructive criticism take it and move but if it’s out it a place of hate, you can tell the difference.
- Love is Choice
Love is really not a feeling, it’s a choice. So what then is love really? Love is kind, it’s patient, it’s not self seeking, it’s not boastful etc. It was never defined as a feeling by the author of love Himself. So the next time you tell someone you love them, make sure it’s out of a place of choice, and to be all these things to them.
If it is a romantic relationship, don’t let the butterflies lead you into saying you love them. Love is not a feeling?
- Encouraging others goes a long way
Never underestimate the power of your words. A little bit of encouragement goes a long way. Not like I’ve not always known this, but to be more intentional about being kind enough to send words of encouragement is very important
- Have fun in the moment
Stop waiting for the next phase of your life to have fun. Enjoy your life, live your life to the fullest. As soon as I hit 20, there’s was this urgency about life, I had to tell my self to be calm (by the help of the Holy Spirit) I don’t want to chase my dreams and forget to really live.
- Value your peace of mind
I hate things that make me lose my peace of mind. There’s nothing like having a free mind towards people. If someone hurts you, talk to them about it and sort things through. Silence treatment is deadly.
- No place like home
NO PLACE LIKE HOME ! Selah 😭
- Your relationship with God is not going to work it self out
There’s work to be done, there are sacrifices to be made. So get to work ,daily, everyday.
I hope you all enjoyed this post? 😊

An extremely enjoyable post! Living the moment is something that can’t be overemphasised; it is indeed a terrible thing thinking that your true joy is in the next phase of your life… it sometimes doesn’t work that way. Thank you for sharing these lessons!

Love is a choice, a hard choice sometimes. We may have to work at it at times, but overall is worth it!

Lovely post. I usually have to remind myself to enjoy the moment most times, ambitions can get so distracting sometimes that we forget to live. Thank you for reminding me again!
