Lessons From The Movie – OVERCOMER

I finally decided to see “Overcomer” the movie. For some reason, I just kinda ignored it it until I saw the amazing reviews on twitter, and I thought I might as well join the conversation.

I’ll start by saying that this movie spoke to me personally, and reminded me that I’ll never walk this earth alone. This was my reaction when I was watching and I knew I had to do a review.

So let’s let get into t lessons :

We hinge our identity on what matters the most to us: Being aware of who you are in Christ changes how you view yourself. When you allow the awareness of who you are take root in your life, you will live above lukewarmness.

God is calling you into relationship with Him, will you choose to know Him beyond Sunday services ? Will you allow the reality of who you are in Christ change your lifestyle?

Live beyond the eyes of people: Remember when Thomas Hill asked John Harrison if he prayed for him like he promised ? Many of us have become so used to saying things we don’t mean just because it’s the right thing to do or say in the moment, without actually meaning it or weighing the gravity of our words. In this social media age, it’s easy to just leave comments like “I’m praying for you” without actually praying for them.

This is something I’m learning to be intentional about, when I tell someone I’ll pray for them, instantly do in the moment so I didn’t forget. I also have a prayer journal where I write down the names of people I’m praying for so everything I have my devotion, I don’t forget. It’s easy to do certain things when people are watching, but what we do when no one is watching matters the most. Let’s learn to live for the audience of one, our Father.

Defeat first happens in the mind: Ever heard that saying that goes “If you believe you can’t then you can’t ? ” As children of God, do we really believe we can so all things through Christ who strengthens us ? Do you trust God enough to allow him lead us ? Do you believe everything written about you in the scripture ? Whose voice are we listening to ? God or the devil ? We must always filter what we allow into our hearts because the content you take in can feed your fear or feed your faith.

Let’s also remember that we’re victorious in Christ and we always win. If your mind tells you that you can’t do it, respond with God’s word. So start thinking like a winner because you are.

Stop running with deadweight: Forget about the past, and focus on the prize ahead. It’s difficult to let go of past but it could be an hindrance to your future. Forgive, let go and Run light. Hannah Scott forgave her father for leaving, it was a difficult decision but she did. As believers they’re so many people we would have to forgive over and over again. Holding grudges will only hinder your walk and slow you down.

We are never alone: We have a life coach who is our sweet Jesus, he’s constantly instructing us on what to do, moves to make, steps to take and reminding us that we’re never alone. We have the Bible as our guide for daily life, and God has blessed us certain relationships to guide us into his plans for our lives. Nurture those relationships, meditate on God’s word day and night, just as Hannah Scott held tightly to the words of her father during her races, relate to Gods word in that same way.

Attack the hills – You know those difficult situations where everything suddenly becomes harder, don’t give up without a fight. Give your best shot, not because it won’t hurt but because you know that there’s victory ahead.

In this journey of life, we are never alone, we are not without comfort, we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, teaching us, guiding and helping us. We need him, even for such a time as this, where the whole world is fighting a common enemy called Corona virus, we must hold on to God’s word and depend on him completely.

Using this opportunity to encourage everyone reading this, tis too shall pass okay ? ❤️

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this, kindly share your thoughts with me. If you have seen this movie, what was your reaction to it and what lessons did you learn from it ? I love hearing from you.

I’ve seen it and it was so timely for me as I have started using this period to revive my relationship with God and it was worth my time. I also learned that many times when I say I’d pray for people, I tend to forget to do so. So writing it down or doing right away as you said is very important.

It is such a great movie I recommend for everyone.
