Let Go Of The Weight

A while ago, I couldn’t fit into a particular pair of jeans, I struggled and struggled because I really liked them but it won’t go past a certain point. Along the line, I lost weight and I decided to try on the jeans again; Behold! they fit me and was even slightly big around the waist. Now my point is this; sometimes in life, a lot of us carry unnecessary weight and baggage that we don’t need and this doesn’t allow us fit into God’s will or program for us. We carry this weight for so long, forgetting that even the bible says that we should “lay aside every weight that easily besets us” (Hebrews 12:1). Now, this doesn’t mean we should all lose weight physically but some of us need to lose some weight emotionally. We need to let go of fear, hurt and pain that easily triggers something in our mind when we see a particular name, number or image. Yes, you have been hurt but please encourage yourself and get over it. I have been hurt too and I am sure I have hurt people unknowingly at some point but I had to let go of the hurt because if you don’t let go; you are not helping your mind. You are simply allowing people live in your head / heart; “rent free”, when they have moved on with their lives.

So, going forward, some of us need to need to lose weight emotionally; especially from hurt, pain,  bad break-ups, un-forgiveness et al. There is a reason for “luggage allowance” on planes because if there wasn’t, people will go over board (especially Nigerians) because we like to over-pack. In our day to day lives, we also shouldn’t carry on extra luggage on our minds. “If you wish to travel far & fast, travel light.”- Glenn Clark. So, I urge us all to avoid paying for excess luggage, forgive yourself for that blunder, release your mind / heart from what that Ex, Aunty, Uncle or Friend did to you. It happened for a reason, learn from it and move on. You are also not perfect because you hurt God sometimes. So, learn to make excuses for people but don’t harbour pain in your heart, it makes you obese emotionally and spiritually, so guard the thoughts you keep on your mind. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”- Philippians 4:8.

The weight that easily besets us as individuals differ……we save ourselves a lot of stress when we lay them aside.
